notes on sf
2023-05-12
I recently visited sf for about two weeks.
it is the magical heaven, people have been praising - but only if you are right for this strategic decision
the median is similar.
I don't see strong reasons one should hire "simple workforce" in sf.
the average developer here is not more cracked than one from Poland, while demanding more than double the salary.
they will most likely pick the FAANG job that pays better and has benefits.
what sf is about, is the top 0.1%.
the visionaries and best of their fields.
the ones that don't care about money but about higher goals.
which is why I think you should only move here, if you are working on something truly meaningful and truly hard.
the funding is definitely higher, but for MOST PEOPLE not easier.
Europe has a lot of money to spare on shitty B2B, that should be able to go without it if the execution was great.
the funding is the deciding factor, if you are building something, that people here would call shizophrenic.
the most important part is becoming part of the information network.
there is something crucial about living at the source of technology.
even though information flows through the internet, living here you become involved in the information which is still brewing (and is the most valuable one).
most likely, SF is going to be your primary market.
consumers spend a lot and are the earliest adopters (this goes back to the point of something truly novel).
if you are selling to other startups (or big tech enterprises), this is again self-explanatory.
I never realized how much value becoming a regular at a community would bring, we simply don't have any with this high-signal and willingness to help over here.
